Hopefully you have seen that famous Staples commercial where they play the Christmas song “The Most Wonderful Time of the Year” and the parents dance thru Staples. It always makes me laugh.

For many parents (and nannies) back to school is a wonderful time of the year.

For me it has a secret joy. Not that the kids will be gone but because it is the PERFECT time for office supplies.

Post its, pens, notebooks, paper clips, folders….. you name it and I love it. I am an office supply junkie. And this time of year is even better than Christmas for me.

People whose lives do not revolve around a school calendar measure years from January- but mine always start in September. I get organize I buy new supplies. I set up new systems. Everything is pretty and clean. Coaches have not changed practice times yet. Employers have not scratched out notes to me on non coordinating paper and stuck them on the calendar. The paper clips are all where I left them in a cute container and not fashioned into a triceratops that is a time waster while homework is ignored.

Every September I have hope that by buying a new system, a new color folder, a new pen, I will finally find the silver bullet that keeps me on track and my desk area looking like a Simple Living cover story “Nannies Organizing Saves Family’s Lives”.

I love the smell of paper. Of hope. Of the manilla folder aisle of Office Depot.

What about you?
